CREDITS
If a student wishes to receive credit, it is important that he/she work closely with the home university before leaving for México. Every university has a different policy for granting credits. In some cases the evaluation of the Center is sufficient. Other universities prefer to give the student an exam upon returning. Each week a student´s teacher will complete an evaluation of the student´s progress. Upon completion of his/her studies, the Academic Director will make a general evaluation based on the teacher´s reports. It may be sent to any student or directly to his/her university.
INSURANCE
Students should check with their health insurance provider before coming to México in order to see if they will be covered when outside of the U.S. If not it is possible to buy short term health and accident insurance at most travel agencies. In most cases, it is necessary to pay any medical costs in México, and then submit receipts for reimbursement upon returning to the U.S.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Students should fly into the México City airport. They must have a passport, Please note that a passport is always needed for any bank transaction in México. Travelers to México will also need a Tourist Card which they will be given at the airport or at the immigration office at the border.
Do not lose the bottom part of the Tourist Card. It is needed in order to leave México. Loss will result in travel delays and a fine.
Pullman de Morelos offers good public transportation between the airport and Cuernavaca. Buses leave about every half hours and cost approximately 10.00 USD. Look for a sign that says "Autobuses de Cuernavaca". Upon arrival in Cuernavaca, taxis are available to take students directly to their families. The "Colonia" or neighborhood where the family lives should be stressed as many streets with the same name can be found in different parts of Cuernavaca. Taxis should charge between 3.00 and 4.00 USD it is only necessary to tip taxi drivers in México when they give extra help with luggage.
Private airport pick-ups can be arranged by the Center if we know in advance the flight details: date of arrival, airline and flight number, arrival time, and the city from which the flight departed. While this service is fairly expensive, it is frequently worth the cost, and the driver will take the student directly to his/her host family.
